Now, THAT sounds like a good idea :D
Smörgåstårta (pronounced “smore-goes-tore-ta”) - Swedish for “sandwich-cake”. This is my first attempt at making one. Note that 1) I am absolutely clueless in the kitchen, and 2) I was not prepared, ingredient-wise. But the gist of it was three layers of bread, glazed in a mayonnaise/sour cream mixture, and the inbetween layers being pretty much whatever you want. Based on what was available to me, I chose a shoyu/sugar Vienna sausage pate for the first layer, and hard-boiled eggs for the second. Traditional smörgåstårta would have additions such as lettuce, tomato, cucumber, assorted meats, etc., but not all of this was available at the time. Also, I initially wanted to use a big circular loaf of white bread, but all I had was loaves of rye.
After assembling the “sandwich-cake”, it stayed covered in the fridge for 2-3 hours. Pulling it out, it certainly didn’t look like much, or as pretty as the ones you can search on Google. BUT IT TASTES FANTASTIC. I can honestly say this is the best tasting thing I’ve ever made in the kitchen. Already making plans on a second one, with better ingredients.
